Prep softball: Bingham shuts out Springville

Prep softball • The pitcher throws shutout and knocks in two runs at plate.
South Jordan • It’s been a very good week for the Bingham softball team.
The Miners disposed of their two biggest Region 3 rivals Tuesday and Wednesday before posting a 3-0 win over a quality Springville team in non-region action Thursday.
The game’s only runs crossed the plate in the third inning when Bingham strung together some hits.
Whitnee Webster’s one-out single to right field started the rally. Kenadee Moore and Jaydan Jensen followed with base hits to load the bases.
Senior McKenzie Dorney then drove the ball to deep center field. It was caught, but the sacrifice fly was deep enough to allow Webster to score what turned out to be the only run the Miners needed.
“It was just where I expected,” Dorney said. “After my first at-bat and watching her pitch to others, I saw that the first ball was a strike, so I took it out.”
Pitcher Nicole Wall gave herself some insurance when she poked a single to right field to score two.
“It wasn’t my most solid contact, but it found a gap, so we were OK,” she said. “We had two other huge games this week against Copper Hills and Taylorsville, our biggest league rivals. We knew we were playing a good team today, so we wanted to try to dominate.”
Bingham held only one practice this week because of the busy schedule, but the Miners made the most of it.
“We got lots of work in and focused on our hitting,” Dorney said.
